Hermione Granger: Part human. Part cat. ALL hero.
Hermione Granger is the HPA’s catspiration, and she’s also a huge influence on our social change methodology. When Hermione believed in a cause, she didn’t hesitate to organize her friends (often by force) and direct them toward some ambitious goals. Whether it was fighting for house elf rights or defeating Voldemort, Hermione was often the catalyst for movements that shaped the wizarding world’s future and made it a safer and more equitable place for all.
Harry Potter Alliance Chapters are built on the foundation that Hermione established with SPEW. Thus, it makes perfect sense that our first annual leadership conference has been named in her honor!
Granger Leadership Academy takes place from October 17 to 19, 2014, in Auburn, Alabama. We’ll have two full days of programming, a variety of leadership workshops, two keynote speakers and lots more. It’s a fantastic opportunity to level up your leadership resume while celebrating the stories and fandoms you love most!
The best part is that Granger Leadership Academy is open to everyone! Whether you’re in an HPA chapter, thinking about starting one, or just a supporter of the HPA who admires our work, you are welcome to attend the conference and participate in our programming.
Wait, no: the real best part is that this conference only costs $40! Seriously. Forty bucks, so long as you register before August 17, at which point registration will go up to $50. That’s still super cheap though, and your return on investment is pretty fantastic. Here’s what you get:
Learn about community organizing through the unique lens of fan activism.
- Gain excellent leadership experience and level up your resume and/or college applications!
- Meet a variety of excellent HPA Staff, including President Andrew Slack, Chapters Director Matt Maggiacomo, and Operations Manager/Quidditch Team Captain Alicia Radford.
- CATERED DINNER! Food is so great!
- After two solid days of learning, let loose with your wizard friends at our wizard dance party!
Please check out the Granger Leadership Academy website for all the details, and contact Beverly Schreiber at beverly@thehpalliance.org if you have any questions!
See you in October,
